The Best Of 2016/17 – Middle Blockers

1953 0

There are many middle blockers who showed class in the season behind us but we have chosen these eight to compete for the 2016/2017 WoV Dream Team!

Before you read the reasons why we nominated these blockers we remind you that two of them will find their place in the WoV Dream Team for 2016/2017 throughout two rounds of voting. You can leave a vote for your favorite middle blocker at our WorldofVolley Home Page and at our WorldofVolley Poll Page. The rules of voting are explained in our introduction article Best of 2016/2017!

He maybe did not go all the way in the Italian Championship with Sir Safety Conad Perugia, but Serbian Marko Podraščanin was by far the best scorer among middle blockers in the league with 239 points during the season, averaging 2.3 blocks per game. Podraščanin was also awarded with a spot in the 2017 CEV Champions League ideal line-up.

His compatriot and until last season a teammate in Cucine Lube Civitanova, Dragan Stanković, was also at the very top of the scorers among middle blockers in Serie A1 and, although there are players slightly better in blocking in the league last season, he deserved to be nominated for the WoV Dream Team due to the fact he won the national title in Italian Championship by averaging 66% positive attack per game!

When one team wins three trophies in a single season, of which one in the strongest club tournament in Europe, the CEV Champions League, every player from its roster no matter of how big impact he had, deserves to find his place in the WoV Dream Team or at least to be nominated. So does Russian Artem Volvich from Zenit Kazan.

Same explanation goes to Sada Cruzeiro middle blocker duo: Robertlandy Simón and Isac Santos. Their team took three trophies of which one in the strongest club tournament in the world, the FIVB Club World Championship. Especially Cuban Simón had a huge impact in achieving these successes, becaming more than a safe attacking option for setter William Arjona and averaging 12.5 points per game.

Seyed Mousavi was one of key players of Sarmayeh Bank in winning second consecutive title in a highly competitive league like Iranian, while Serbian Srećko Lisinac was chosen in ideal line-up of the Polish PlusLiga despite his team PGE Skra Bełchatów had another disappointing season.

Dmitriy Muserskiy had another amazing season individually, making 15 points per game as a player of Belogorie Belgorod, which put him at the very top of the Russian Superliga considering middle blockers.

So, all you have to do now is to VOTE!

ECH 2017 M: Blengini crosses-out one player and announces the list for EuroVolley

I think Italy with Zaytsev is one and without Zaytsev is another one . Italy loss its power without him . Without Zaytsev Italy turns to a OK team. Reply
