WoV BLOG: Is it time for Polish Men’s NT to get its first domestic coach after 12 years?

817 2

In the past 12 years, the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS) changed 5 Men's National Team head coaches and none was the Pole.

Is it time to change that?

These are foreign coaches of the Men's National Team of Poland and their successes in the past 12 years:

2005–2008 Raúl Lozano (4 years) - an Argentine coach won the silver medal at the 2006 FIVB World Championship with the Polish team.

2009–2010 Daniel Jorge Castellani (2 years) - Under his command, Poland won a European Championship title for the first time in the history, on September 13, 2009. On October 25, 2010, after the vote of the Polish Volleyball Federation board, Castellani was sacked.

2011–2013 Andrea Anastasi (3 years) - He was the first Italian coach at the helm of the Polish team. He won the silver medal at the 2011 FIVB World Cup, the bronze medal in the 2011 FIVB World League, the bronze medal at the 2011 CEV European Championship and the gold medal in the 2012 World League. For the first time in the history, the Polish National Team won three medals in one year!!! In October 2013, Anastasi was fired and the reason for this decision was an unsuccessful campaign in 2013 which resulted in a lot of defeats. While working with Anastasi, Poland claimed 3rd place in the FIVB World Rankings.

2014–2016 Stéphane Antiga (3 years) - The young coach from France won the gold medal with Poland at the 2014 FIVB World Championship, which was the first success of a kind of the Polish NT after 40 years. Then, in the next year, he won the bronze medal at the 2015 FIVB World Cup and the bronze medal at the 2015 CEV European League.

2017 Ferdinando De Giorgi (1 year) - He did not have much chance to work with the team, but what they showed at the CEV European Championship in Poland was a debacle. The PZPS sacked him on September 20.

A deadline for the candidates for the new Men's NT head coach to send their applications to the PZPS is November 20!

TUR M: Konarski – „Watching PlusLiga games now, I think this season would be tiring for me“

Also has something about his paycheck. He has to accept the 400 Ziraat offered of course! Lets be honest and stop the hipocrisy. Players have to get the best they can from their carreer. So why not play in a weak tournament but earn twice what you would being home?? Congrats to the best decision Konarsky has ever made in his entire carreer Reply

RUS W: Goncharova – “I feel more confident because coach Terzic makes me feel that way”

Re: @Vadim
Vakifbank risks with their service and is still considered the strongest club in the world. Alekno made the biggest risk of them all by putting Muserskiy to opposite and Mikhailov to outside attacker in the London Olympics while still considered the best in their original positions...So how is that risk is bad? Players need to master and overcome the risk to not call it anymore as risk. Reply
