The USA were trailing 2-0 in sets against Russia in Rio but the call of a bronze medal was too strong to be ignored. The „Zbornaya“ outblocked their rivals but the US National Team composed itself in the last three sets, performed an impeccable defense and took the bronze medal. It was USA’s fifth Men’s medal overall at the Olympic Games.
In the absence of Aaron Russell and Maksim Mikhaylov (both played first set only), USA’s and Russia’s head coach had to find new power sources in the attack. Thus, Reid Priddy took over huge part of responsibility, being second best scorer of his team (18 pts.) behind Matt Anderson (21). On the other side, Konstantin Bakun was a good substitution for Mikhailov (14 points). Artem Volvich and Egor Kliuka added 14 points as well.
