Sada Cruzeiro barely survived scare from Minas Tênis Clube in Round 18 to score the 6th straight win in the 2017/18 Brazilian men’s volleyball championship Superliga.

In a balanced derby of Minas Gerais state when it comes to all segments of a play, the defending champions and leaders in the standings Cruzeiro (16-2; 48 points) broke the resistance of the fifth-placed Minas (11-7; 35 points) only after five sets, partially 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-13.

The Cuban Yoandy Leal topped Cruzeiro with 24 points (3 aces, 78% attack – 21/27, 1 error), while his compatriot Robertlandy Simón added 4 kill blocks. Isac Santos made 79% attack (11/14). As for Minas, Henrique Honorato scored 18 points. Robson Devoranen “Bob” made 72% reception (32 digs, 1 error).

With this win, Cruzeiro maintained one point of advantage compared to No.2 Sesc-RJ (16-2; 47 points), who beat last-placed JF Vôlei (2-16; 5 points) in five sets as well. After suffering the second defeat in a row, now only theory leaves Minas in contention for No.4.

By beating the sixth-placed Corinthians-Guarulhos (9-9; 26 points), No.9 Ponta Grossa/Caramuru (4-14; 15 points) returned in the race for the playoffs, in which top 8 teams from the regular season will advance. Leonardo Pinheiro “Leozão” topped Caramuru with 23 points (4 aces, 2 kill blocks). Libero Jorge Bruno made 82% reception (11 digs) while Leonardo Silva made 78% reception (23 digs). Rogério Nogueira “Mineiro” scored 14 points for Corinthians. Sidnei Santos “Sidão” contributed with 4 kill blocks.

Will Lube win battle for Simón? Cruzeiro refuse high-priced offer from SupeLega runners-up!

Re: @Axe
I disagree. These players are worth it and the league may well become the strongest again in the world as it should be. The men's game is so much better than the women's game today and people need to respect that. Reply

ITA M: Perugia find replacement for Zaytsev – Trentino icon Lanza signs!

So Wrong. Trentino will compete for the top 3 spots in A1. Russell is a massive pickup for them. Very smart and consistent organization.

All the pressure is on Perugia with its investments. Reply
