Maritza Plovdiv have written the new chapter of their volleyball history as they qualified for the pool stage of the 2018 CEV Women’s Champions League after being 2 sets down in Russia.

Maritza, triple consecutive champions of Bulgaria, silenced the 2,500 fans in Krasnoyarsk gymnasium by making a spectacular comeback against the Russian side Enisey in the second leg of the Champions League Qualifiers – Round 3, 3-2 (20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 27-25, 15-12). Since Enisey won the first match with the exact same result, Golden Set had to determine which team will play the group stage of the tournament. Maritza prevailed in it by a 15-11 to set off a huge winning celebration on the court as they managed to advance to the main draw of the Champions League for the first time in the club history. Tanya Petkova and Kremena Kamenova scored 18 points apiece for Maritza while Nataliya Malykh made 17 for Enisey.

Thanks to 14 points from the Dutch Lonneke Slöetjes, the defending champions VakıfBank İstanbul achieved another straight-set victory over Belarusian club Minchanka Minsk and secured their berth in one of the pools. Interestingly, as much as 12 players of the Turkish side managed to put their names on the scoresheet. In Minchanka, Nadzeya Stoliar and Aksana Kavalchuk scored 9 points each.

VNL M: Italy get rude awakening from Australia, Brazil and Poland suffer 3 defeats in a row!

I dont think people understand how affected this Brazilian team was affected by the negative news from their Government on pulling funding from sports teams and athletics in the country. it was a punch in the gut from a country that already is reeling with issues. Bruno was the one who publicly called the government out. Clearly he is affected. Its a darn shame. Reply

VNL M: Italy produce 500th official win, Canada heavily shock Brazil, Iran sweep Poland in tension-filled game

During VLN there is only one team which really surprises the audience in all over the world - Japan. They won over Italy, Germany etc.. Although much smaller players then rest of VNL, they have played very good. Moreover there is a phenomenal talent 18 years, 186 cm, Y. Nishida, an opposite position... Vertical jump cca 100 cm.. In past K.Kiraly, 191 cm, jumped cca 90 cm, was similar dynamic player.. However this time TV audience could enjoy volleyball. The Mikasa white ball OG 1984, 1988 was perfect visible and recognizable.
Unfortunately due to of same firm and a wrong FIVB decision, we can not enjoy these matches now... Volleyball reminds a pantomime - without a slow motion replay is almost not possible to watch volleyball since 1998. Compare with the FIFA World Cup 2018 football ball... Such colors and design should be used also in volleyball... Reply
