CZE M: Trophy favorites Kladno and České Budějovice survive huge scares in national cup quarterfinals

The rematches of the Czech men’s volleyball cup quarterfinals nearly brought two huge upsets.

After achieving confident wins in the 1st leg, the leading duo of the Czech championship UNIQA Extraliga could easily get eliminated in the rematches of the national cup.

Trophy holders Kladno volejbal cz started the rematch with the visiting side SK Volejbal Ústí nad Labem with a 3-0 win from the 1st leg on their account but were still on the verge of being eliminated from the tournament. Ústí nad Labem fought back by a 3-1 and took the game to the golden set in which Kladno prevailed by a 28-26!

 

UNIQA Extraliga titleholders VK Jihostroj České Budějovice faced the similar fate after winning the first match against Volejbal Brno by a 3-1. In the rematch, Brno gained a 2-0 lead in sets but did not have enough strength to make it to the golden set – České Budějovice made a comeback, 3-2.

VK Dukla Liberec scored a 3-0 victory over VK Euro Sitex Příbram, upgrading the success of the 1st leg (3-1).
