Slovenian Men’s National Team has won the gold medal in Group 2 of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League.

Current CEV European Championship runners-up Slovenia superiorly grabbed the title in the second-ranked division of the FIVB World League as they beat Japan in the final match, in Gold Coast, Australia, finishing the torunament with 10-1. Thus, this small European country made a huge progress in the past two years as they made their World League debut in 2015, winning Group 3, and now became winners of the upper class of the tournament as well.

Unfortunately for them, if the FIVB change World League format, Slovenia will not move to the elite division, Group 1, as they should according to the current regulations. They can only hope for the format to remain the same…

Mitja Gasparini, who will play his second consecutive season in Korea, topped Slovenia with 15 points against Japan, who beat Final Four hosts Australia in the semis. Yuki Ishikawa, who extended the contract with Top Volley Latina from Italy, noted 11 for the Asian side.

This tournament will be such a waste of time if that new format will be introduced, eliminating the rewards for the teams that worked hard for it like Belgium and Slovenia.

I suppose the final of the WL group 2 was not waste of time. Contrary. It deserve some analyses.
Now I want to devote to FIVB TV/Internet broadcasting from all WL 2017.
Quality of TV volleyball broadcasting has a big impact on enjoyment from volleyball matches, especially due to fact that this ball is a problem to recognize.. Moreover they can make use the breaks to replay a rally from various angles, from back/rear, apply a slow motion etc. I have watched a lot of matches from all 3 WL groups, from all places where this 2017 WL was held..
According to my opinion the best, experienced TV directors of v. broadcasting and technical possibilities have in Japan, South Korea, France.. However on top in world I consider Polish TV from these two aspects.
Nevertheless I appreciate also broadcasting from Australia where two (2) expert commentators were invited…It was a good idea… Adding subtitles by FIVB for fans from non-English speaking countries I consider as the progress.

Re: @John Doek it is pretty obvious that we were not talking about the broadcasting quality of the finals but about the (lack of) consequences of this result in the future WL. If the FIVB holds on to that new idea of them then the result of this final which means ‘Slovenia goes to Group 1’ and ‘Italy goes to Group 2’ will never happen. That idea of the FIVB eliminates the competitive fairness of the WL and destroys fair chances of small countries like everyone should know which countries they are by now.

So, if Slovenia doesn’t promovate it is without a doubt a waste of time.
