WCH U23 M: In Cairo will test new scoring system "best-of-seven sets of 15 points"

948 1

Everything is ready for the begin of the 2017 FIVB Men's U23 World Championship in Egypt.

The competition will feature the testing of a new scoring system with matches played to best-of-seven sets of 15 points (with at least a two-point difference needed). Three ranking points will be awarded to teams winning 4-0, 4-1 or 4-2. Two points go the winner of a 4-3 match with one point for the loser.

The interval between sets is reduced to two minutes (from three). Teams will switch ends after the second set - and also, if needed, after sets 4, 5 and 6.

In addition, there will be no technical timeouts - just two regular thirty-second timeouts per team per set.

Also, new serving regulation will be tried out in Cairo, with the server not allowed to land inside the court after a jump service.

All twelve coaches of the teams faced the media Thursday afternoon in Cairo.

Salim Bouhalla (Algeria): "We are very happy to play in this Championship. We will do our best to reach the second round. The event is an excellent chance to get in contact with other strong opponents and gain experience."

Camilo Soto (Argentina): "We have a hard tournament ahead, facing new teams and new regulations but on the other hand we are a very good team and we have high hopes so we will do our best."

Giovane Gavio (Brazil): "We are very happy to be here in this great country with fantastic people. We do have a lot of pressure on us as we are the winners of the first edition and we need to repeat it. We expect a good place for Brazil. It is my first World Championship as a coach and I think we have a good opportunity to learn and change. We will try our best and I wish all the teams the best as well."

Ju Genyin (China): "I am happy to be a part of this marvelous event and we hope the new regulations won't be an obstacle for the team."

Nicolas Vives (Cuba): "We are here to do our maximum and try to win."

Hassan El-Hosary (assistant coach, Egypt): "We welcome all the teams in Egypt and wish them a good stay. Our target is to present good players and improve our ranking as well as leaving a good image of Egyptian volleyball."

Juan Manuel Cichello (Iran): "It is a great pleasure to be here as it is a special event because only twelve teams qualified. We hope to reach the semis."

Fumitoshi Tokunaga (Japan): "We are representing our continent Asia, so we have to do our best and try ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games."

Jose Luis Martell (Mexico): "The new rules make the championship very interesting and we will do our best to appear in the best shape."

Dariusz Daszkiewicz (Poland): "We don't know how we will do with the new rules and how far we can go but will target one game at a time and see what happens."

Andrey Voronkov (Russia): "We hope to repeat our victory in Dubai 2015 but we will see how it will go with the new rules."

Resat Arig (Turkey): "We are so happy to be here as it is a good experience and we wish good luck to all teams."

What about the new rule concerning 'landing before the 3-meter-line' on back row attacks? They gave up on this?

Re: @The Hoff
They should just quit thinking about any new rules (except the removal of technical time-outs). These 'revolutionary' changes just make the game unrecognisable.

Re: @Juliana you don't own players. So arrogant of you.
Bruno Voloch is also not credible. WoV should stop citing him as source.
