Argentina

Argentina have defeated the reigning champions Russia in an epic final match, proving they are the best U23 national team in the world right now.

This is Argentina’s first ever world gold medal in any volleyball competition.

Gaston Fernandez had a very good game, contributing to the team with 20 points.

Argentina had a much better start, taking the first three sets and killing the rival’s confidence. However, Russia have managed to decrease the score to 3-2 but that was all from the reigning champions.

Russia could have brought in Kliuka, Volkov & Vlasov (& Poletaev) and no one would have had a chance against them.

Big congratulation to Argentina… The incredible setter – only 173 cm M. Sanchez, second Avital Selinger.. For v. world it is possitive message, that still small players could be very usefull. Russia – A. Voronkov good job, but Argentina was simple better in this final.. To speculate if somebody was missing is useless. .Also other two European teams did not have all who could take part in..They are on ECh.. We could see also very talented players from Brazil, Cuba, but also other countries.. Pity, health problems of a Polish team, otherwise a final standing could be different.. However some trend as far as a scope of territorial/continent participation should be debated…
Good TV coverage, all matches on You Tube FIVB..I appreciate it. Fans interest – only on a home team…. New rules – no comment…
