Although there is one more round left to be played in the WGCC 2017 in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan, with the round-robin format, yesterday’s, and especially today’s results, went into the favor of China.

The U.S. National Team beat Japan in the last match of the penultimate round by a 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 15-12) but this was the outcome that favored China. Either USA or Japan needed to get all three points from this match and reach a 3-1 record to stay in the race for the trophy (since the win-loss ratio is the primary criterion for the rankings). In case the USA have won a three-pointer today, they would have to beat Brazil in the last round and hope that Japan could do the same to China. In case Japan have triumphed today by a 3-0 or 3-1, they would need to down China in the last round.

Thus, China have 4-0 and 11 points, while the closest follower USA have 3-1 and 7 points.

Grand Champions Cup 2017, Day 4:

Russia vs. China 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 20-25)

Brazil vs. Korea 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-23)

Japan vs. USA 2-3 (25-22, 21-25, 28-26, 21-25, 12-15)
