It was 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-17, 26-24) triumph over Iran that qualified Italy to the semifinal before the final round.
Gabriele Nelli led the Italian scorers with 17 points.
Apart from Italy, the second team that put its name on the semifinal schedule from Pool A is Cuba.
Central Americans outclassed the hosts in straight sets and also remained.
Osmany Uriarte scored 16 points in the winning team.
In Pool B, Russia defeated Turkey in a tiebreaker 3-2 (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8) to stay invincible and secure its spot in semis. Russia’s Egor Kliuka scored 20 points.
In Pool B’s South American classic, Argentina defeated Brazil 3-2 (25-18, 25-18, 31-33, 23-25, 15-13), despite losing its hopes to qualify for the semifinals before the clash.
Brazil has complicated own position in the battle for the semis with a defeat and will have to qualify for it in the last round.
Argentine Pablo Koukartsev was the top scorer of the game with 34 points!
