RUS M: Sergey Shlyapnikov has announced the roster of Russia... Where is Poletaev?

3848 1

The new head coach of Russia decided to call 21 players...

Sergey Shlyapnikov has announced the names of the players on which he will count for the 2017 World League tournament. As you can see below, there are no some well-known names such are Dmitriy Musersky, Maxim Mikhailov, Alexander Butko, Artem Volvich...

Still the biggest surprise is that there is no Viktor Poletaev on the list. One of the best young players in Europe was the top scorer of the 2016/17 Russian Championship Regular Season, still at the end of the season he suffered injury due to which he missed the start of the Playoffs.

Perhaps the injury is the reason Shlyapnikov decided not to call Poletaev...

This is the roster of Russia:

Setters: Sergey Antipkin (Dinamo Moscow), Pavel Pankov (Kuzbass Kemerovo), Dmitry Kovalev (Ural Ufa)

Opposites: Konstantin Bakun (Dinamo Moscow), Maxim Zhigalov (Belogorie Belgorod), Alexander Chefranov (Gazprom Yugra), Alexander Kimerov (Fakel)

Outside-Hitters: Alexey Spiridonov (Enisey Krasnoyarsk), Egor Kliuka, Dmitry Volkov (Fakel), Dmitriy Ilinykh, Denis Biryukov (Dinamo Moscow), Egor Feoktistov (Ural Ufa)

Middle Blockers: Ilyas Kurkaev (Lokomotiv Novosibirsk), Vadim Likhosherstov Ilya Vlasov (Fakel), Dmitry Shcherbinin, Igor Filippov (Dinamo Moscow)

Libero: Valentin Krotkov (Zenit Kazan), Artem Zelenkov (Dinamo-LO), Roman Martynyuk (Belogorye Belgorod).

CEV abolished the technical timeouts!

in PlusLiga there are no technical time-outs and thanks to that the games are more interesting to watch, probably because the flow of the game is not disturbed (if only they eliminated 10-minute breaks for commercials after 2 sets it would be perfect...) Reply

TRANSFER EXPLOSION: Zaytsev in Modena – “The most important thanks is for you, Lollo”

Re: @suisse Agree, I was thinking either Modena or Trentino for Zaytsev as an opposite. Modena has to get one strong outside spiker beside Urnaut and one strong middle blocker if they want to compete with Lube and Perugia.
Trentino has to find some great opposite (Djuric if he is healthy) in order to become competitive. Lanza and Kovacevic are not as strong as Juantorena/Leal or Leon/Rusell. If Rusell move to Trentino, and I am not sure why would he since next season is time for Perugia to get some international trophies unless Trentino makes him offer he can't refuse. But then Perugia is without second outside spiker.
Sole went to Verona, which is a surprise. If he came back toTrento, him and Lisinac would make great middle blocker duo.
