Venezuela came out flat and never got going in the contest. Iran‘s quick attack proved to be a significant obstacle for Venezuela.

A spike by Pinerua pulled Venezuela within four at 14-10. Alireza Nadi‘s spike took it to 15-11. Daniel Escobar‘s spike sailed wide and Iran led 16-11 at the second TTO. A spike by Nadi made it 20-13 for Iran. A block by Farhad Gahemi put Iran two points from the set at 23-15. Emerson Rodriguez fired a serve long and Iran had the set 25-16.
A service ace by Ghafour gave Iran a 6-4 lead in the second set. A reception error made it 8-6 for Iran at the first TTO. Carlos Paez sent a serve long and Iran was up 10-7. Mohammad Mousavi‘s spike put Iran up 15-7. Mousavi‘s spike sent Iran into the second TTO leading 17-8. A block by Hamzeh Zarini put Iran in front 22-11. Nadi‘s block made it 23-14. Nadi‘s spike gave Iran set point at 24-15. Mousavi‘s spike gave Iran the set 25-16.
A reception error staked Iran to a 5-0 lead in the third set. Mousavi‘s block put Iran up 7-3. Pinerua sent a serve long and Iran was on top 8-4 at the first TTO. A spike by Ghafour gave Iran a 10-4 lead. A quick dink by Paez made it 13-7 for Iran. Mousavi‘s spike took it to 15-8. Deivis Yustiz fired a spike long and Iran had an eight-point lead at 16-8 at the second TTO. Pinerua‘s spike pulled Venezuela within three at 17-14. Mousavi‘s block made it 21-16 as Iran moved toward closing out the match. Jhoser Contreras sent a spike long and Iran had match point at 24-19. Yustiz sent a serve long and Iran clinched the match 25-20.
Iran play Serbia on Saturday, while Venezuela face China.
