In her debut season outside of her country, she is doing a great job with CS Volei Alba Blaj, especially in the CEV Champions League!

Let’s read about her experience in Romania!

Alba Blaj is performing great so far this season in the CEV Champions League. Your team has four out of four wins. What is your impression?

We are doing really well in the Champions League. We got our 4th victory against Mulhouse. Our main goal is to finish first in the Romanian Cup and regular season. But, of course, we will do our best to improve our level of play in regard to all competitions. It’s been our dream to finish in our group first and to take a huge step towards final four. Now our dream is becoming a reality. We are looking forward to hosting the F4…. why not?” – says Selime at the beginning of the interview with WorldofVolley.

However, in the domestic league, you are behind the first placed team CSM Bucuresti. Do you think that you are able to retain the championship title?

As you know in the last three seasons, our team has been the champion of the Romanian league. We continue with the same goals – to win the championship again. There have been two games where we did not perform at our highest level and that was the games against CSM. We will continue working hard and use these two defeats to motivate us to win our next matches.”

Are you satisfied with your performances so far this season?

This is the first time I am playing as a foreigner in another country and league. I put too much pressure on myself to get better and improve my game, I am never satisfied. I always want more!”

What is the difference between playing in Romania and Turkey?

The main difference is league quality. I can’t compare Turkey and Romania because turkey has a superior level of competition. And here in Romania, there are only 4 main teams that are really strong and fighting for the title. As a local player it is easy to play because I’m a native player, but here it is much more different, I now have more responsibilities as a foreigner.”

How do you spend your free time in Romania?

We live in a small town and there are not many social activities to do. Sometimes I go to the spa or stay at home watching my Netflix and read my books.”

How would you describe your experience in Thailand?

“Thanks to my manager Tunc Afsar, I would describe my time in Thailand as really short but very enjoyable an unforgettable. I like their style of play, which is close to my style, very quick and lots of defenses. Also, the people of their culture are very sympathetic and hospitable.”

In which country you would like to play one day?

I would love to play in Italy.”

What do you miss the most from home?

Having brunch with my family is what I miss the most. And spending time with my little 17-year old brother,” says Selime Ilyasoglu at the end of the interview.
