UNEXPECTED NEWS – Krzysztof Ignaczak returns to volleyball!

3123 0

One of the best Polish players, libero Krzysztof Ignaczak will play again although he said goodbye to volleyball in May 2016. His new destination is England.

Krzystof Ignaczak is one of the most experienced and most recognizable Polish volleyball players. He played for the Polish National team from 1998 to 2014 and during that period he played 321 official matches.

He was a member of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów when he retired in May 2016. In that moment he said that he finished career and in September he started to work as sport commentator at Polish TV Station “Polsat”.

But, it looks like he missed volleyball so he decided to return. A current World Champion, an Olympian, a representative of numerous events and Champion of Poland will play for reigning English Champions IBB Polonia London for the rest of the season.

I had already retired, but thanks to President Luszcz amongst others, I have decided to return to training. The work that the players and back-room staff have carried out at IBB Polonia London deserves to be recognised. The guys train hard, and for the love of the sport are building something phenomenal in England; a country where our sport isn’t very popular. I want to support them in the only way I know how: I think a team can be built in London that can win European trophies. I had always wanted to play overseas, and now I have the opportunity” said Krzystof Ignaczak.

Ignaczak will arrive in London at the start of the next month to meet the Team and to prepare for the semi-finals of the English Championships on 22nd and 23rd April.

The most interesting part of this transfer is that he will play as receiver

POL W: Malgorzata Skorupa continues career in LKS Commercecon Lodz

She played for Atom Trefl Sopot (not Gdańsk). And Atom Trefl doesn't exist anymore. So she had to leave :) Reply

Fans, which volleyball rules you would change if you were in charge?

Re: @Axe in basketball it is quite easy to have a rather small off-bounds space, like 3 meters must be enough, because when the ball is out of bounds it is out of play. In volleyball it's not the case and if you watch volleyball alot you can see that despite the quite large space around the field, players are still getting hold back by commercial panels, sometimes directly behind it tables with people doing a job which is involved by the game. And it's not like lots of people can enjoy that same experience only a few hundreds of people maybe on the the first few front-rows and not the other thousands of people present there.
If the empty space between playing court and 'obstacles' will be enlarged then players might be more motivated to chase off-bound balls and save alot (almost) dozens more than that they mostly can do today. The seats of the audience don't even need to be further away from the playing field, just those commercial panels and benches with working people behind them pushed all the way back to the walls between the court and the seats. If you look at football (soccer if you're American) there is the audience even further away from the playing field even though it is the case that a ball out of bounds equals out of play too. There you never seem to have a decline of popularity of the game.
