The defending champions Russia, who are unbeaten in the 2019 Universiade with a 5-0 record (3-0 in Pool A and 2-0 in the knockout stage) beat Japan, also a team that did not suffer a single loss, by a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21) in the semifinals. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, “Zbornaya“ downed the Czech Republic in straight sets. Anna Lazareva was once again unstoppable for Russia.
