Beijing, the only undefeated side in the CVL including both stages of the regular season, suffered their first defeat in the 2017/18. Bayi was the first team to take down Beijing’s halo of invincibility by beating them in four sets, partially 25-22, 22-25, 29-27, 25-21, in Round 5 of the Top 8. Thus, Bayi broke a 17-game winning streak of Beijing, who now have a 10-1 record and 29 points (4-1 in Top 8), giving over the top spot in the standings to Shanghai.

Tang Chuanhang topped Bayi, who moved up to No.4 (6-5; 15 points), which is the last spot in the standings to secure the playoff berth, with 20 points. Xu Jingtao contributed with 4 kill blocks. One of the reasons for Beijing’s defeat might be the fact Frenchman Kévin Tillie played the opening set only. The Canadian John Gordon Perrin scored 17 points for the losing side. Wang Chen added 4 kill blocks.

Shanghai (10-1; 29 points) outplayed No.3 Jiangsu (5-6; 16 points) by a 3-0 to settle at the top for the first time in 2017/18.
