Rezende criticizes – “We play too much”; Volleyball players support him

by WoV

Bruno Rezende is the first volleyball player that raised his voice against the current volleyball calendar, both at the clubs’ and national teams’ level.

He has written a long post on Instagram.

We played the last game in this year on Sunday. I thank god for giving me health to do what I love. But I can not forget to make constructive criticism of the organizations that control the world of volleyball. It was an extremely stressful year, with countless trips, games and championships. From the clubs’ level and international as well. Special dates, like Christmas, we spent traveling and practicing. The number of injuries has increased and that’s not the best situation for everyone. The FIVB, CEV, LegaVolley, CBV and others need to understand that we are human and we need a calendar that also takes into consideration the health of the athletes. It’s not just about business and money. The athletes are creating the show. We, athletes, can get together to change a bit of this system.”

He got support from many volleyball players in the comments such as Ivan Zaytsev, Simone Giannelli, Nalbert, Helena Havelkova, Adenizia, Caterina Bosetti, Joanna Wolosz…

Bruno is right, FIVB and CEV are only interested in making money and completely have no regards for players and their health.

This year VNL was brutal, almost every weekend national teams have to travel across the world to play on another tournament. When VNL was over, a month later there was the World Championship.

Remember the final of 2016 World League in Brasil played on outside courts, the temperature was barely above 0 C.

Players who play for best clubs have a national league, national cup, and international competition so they have 2,3 games per week.

The calendar is inhumane and teams are forced to calculate and intentionally don’t play with the best players on all competitions in order to save them for important ones.
