The United States Women’s Volleyball national team middle blocker Hannah Tapp is the new player of the Brazilian top division newcomers Flamengo.

Flamengo, who earned a promotion to the 2019/20 Superliga by winning the silver medal in Division 2 last season, contracted U.S. national team member Hannah Tapp. She is coming to the Rio de Janeiro team from an Italian side Zanetti Bergamo.

A 24-year-old middle blocker has just won the Pan-American Cup with her national team, being selected Best Blocker of the tournament. While playing NCAA with Minnesota Golden Gophers, Tapp was named AVCA All-America First-Team in 2015, which is the college dream team.

Interestingly, Hanna’s twin sister Paige is also a professional Volleyball player and a member of the U.S. national team.

Prior to Tapp, one-time Brazilian titleholders (2000/01) Flamengo engaged opposite hitters Beatriz Flávio “Bia“ (Maringá/Amavolei, Division 2) and Maria Luísa Oliveira “Malú“ (Itambé Minas), liberos Gabriella Dutra and Stephany Carvalho (both from Fluminense F.C.), outside hitters Natália Monteiro (Itambé Minas), Carla Santos (Fluminense F.C.) and Italian Valeria Papa (Savino Del Bene Scandicci, Italy), setters Francine Tomazoni (Esporte Clube Pinheiros) and Juliana Carrijo (Fluminense F.C.), and middle blockers Roberta Gomes (Esporte Clube Pinheiros) and Fernanda Ísis (São Cristóvão Saúde/São Caetano).

The club renewed contracts with opposite hitter Angelica Caboclo, outside hitter Jessica Silva and middle blocker Nandyala Gama. Flamengo rewarded the head coach Alexandre Ferrante for promoting the team in the Superliga with a new contract as well.

CWCH 2019 M: Bruninho refuses to receive MVP award and hands it to Leal (VIDEO)!

Whether Leal deserved MVP award or not that is a different discussion. Don't take me wrong, he is a great player. But I am not sure how Bruno got the idea that he has the right to bypass the FIVB process and voting committee and give award he was given to someone else. This is a scandal and he should be punished for this behavior. Reply

CWCH 2019 M: Bruninho refuses to receive MVP award and hands it to Leal (VIDEO)!

Perhaps what will most be remembered is how Leal was snubbed of an award he rightly deserved. That was shameful. No idea why the prejudice against such a deserving player. Lube would not have w on this without Leal. Reply
