Despite an ambitious attitude, Marcelo Gigante’s squad was not able to cross the border of 20 points in any set against the current world champion.

The “canarinhos” began this match better, but rivals from Colombia quickly led to a tie (5:5). After great play on the net, Lucas gained five points clear for Brazil (10:5), so coach Marcelo Gigante asked for a time out. However, it gave no effect, because the proteges of Bernardo Rezende continued to build their lead, which is the second technical break already reached nine points. Colombians have been unable to work out (15:25).

At the beginning of the next set, players from Colombia presented some good volleyball, leading 3-1 and then 6-3. Coach Gigante‘s side also won the first technical time-out (8:5), but the good strokes from Lucarelli led world champions to a tie (11:11). Since then “canarinhos” controlled the course of the set and led a successful counterattack to 18:15. By the end of the period only one team played and Brazil won (25-18).

The start of the third set was marked by Bruno (3-0). Brazilians obviously wanted to finish the game in three sets, because the strong attacks from Sidão made Brazilians running to 13:8. After the second technical break (16:10) Bernardo Rezende “introduced” Lipe, who made Brazilians even to enlarge their advantage (23:11). World champions only needed three sets for victory (25:12), so they confirmed their domination.

Best scorers for Brazil were Lucas and Lucarelli, 9 points both. In Colombia, best among others were Machacon with 9 and Mosquera with 7 points.
