After beating Zenit by a 3-1 in the first leg at home in Poland, it seemed that Skra are on the right track to advance to the semifinals for which they needed to win two sets in the rematch in Russia. But, Zenit players managed to push the match to the golden set.

“The match was not easy for us. We knew that we are facing a very strong team, and Russian teams always play strong. Also, Georg Grozer did amazing things, just as in any game. I am glad that the whole team could oppose Zenit. It is true that sometimes we did not play the way we planed, we got lost in tactical things, but most importantly, we won the last set. However, we did not want it to come to that but it has happened and we will certainly enjoy this victory,“ Skra captain Mariusz Wlazły said.

“Our own mistakes in the golden set decided everything. Perhaps we didn’t have enough strength and energy for the decisive set. Yes, we had serious problems with the lineup in this matchup – for example, our leader Oreol Camejo did not play in the first match – but I don’t want to look for excuses. Volleyball is a team sport,” Aleksandr Klimkin, the head coach of Zenit, stated.
