Serbia have won the European Championship gold medal for the second time in a row, beating amazing Turkey and their 14,000 fans at Ankara Sports Hall.

Serbia and Turkey created an outstanding show in Ankara giving the fans across the globe a real volleyball drama. What has decided this game? As it turned out, Serbia had more experience in decisive moments since they managed to make two comebacks in the tie-break.

The Serbian girls had a better opening of the game (3-1, 6-3, 8-5). Serbia have managed to keep this lead until the middle of the first set when Naz Aydemir stepped on the service line to serve. She has completely changed the pace of the game and Turkey got a huge lead with a 6-0 run: from 14-13 to 14-19! Zoran Terzic’s time-out didn’t help and Turkey took the lead in the finals!

The World Champions and current European Champions prepared an answer in the second set. Zoran Terzic’s side set full control over the second set, leading all the time for leveling the score 1-1 (21-25, 25-21).

In the third set, Serbia were keeping the level of the play which gave them an advantage in this final game. Brankica Mihajlovic had some good serves in this part of the game, keeping her team ahead of the rival 2-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25, 25-21, ).

The fourth set was uncertain as well. The defending champions were leading all the time with one, two or three points but Giovanni Guidetti's side managed to reduce it several times. At the result 16-14 for Serbia, Bojana Milenkovic made an important block against Ebrar Karakurt to give her team a three-point lead. With a mini-series of Turkey, good blocks from Baladin and Boz, they managed to tie the score and a few seconds later to take the lead after an excellent serve of Zehra Gunes - 19-18.

Zoran Terzic gave Bianka Busa's chance to play again and she created a mini series to take over the lead again: 21-19. Two minutes later, Turkey again took the lead after a few amazing defensive moves: 22-21. As it turned out, that was a huge motivation for Turkey to keep the lead and to tie the score after stopping Tijana Boskovic with two amazing blocks: 25-22.

Turkey, led by amazing crowd, continued playing in an amazing way, creating the lead 9-6. However, Bianka Busa came out of nowhere with two aces and two amazing serves, giving Serbia an 11-9 lead. Giovanni Guidetti’s side again created a 3-0 series but Serbia then made a comeback with a 3-0 series as well, to have two match points: 14-12. Turkey have saved the first match point but they ruined a chance to tie the score from the counter attack as one of the players touched the net. It was a sign for a big celebration of Serbian girls.

The top scorer of the game was Tijana Boskovic with 23 points while Brankica Mihajlovic added 22 points. On the other side, Meryem Boz had 16 points.

The Final:

Serbia - Turkey 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13)

Bronze medal game:

Italy - Poland 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 26-24)

ITA M: Modena conquer Trentino’s home court after 4 years, Perugia record 21st win in a row

This was a terrific match to watch. High level players everywhere. Christenson is having the best year of his career in my opinion. Anderson was good early, Zaytzev was great late amd Holt was automatic in the middle.
Trentino needs a complete lineup soon. Russell was the best player this match for both teams. Whoever is going to get this him next year is going to be lucky.
Can't wait for these playoffs. Reply

Yeah, you are right, my bad. They are indeed out already, won matches matter. I don't see Roeselare losing to Vojvodina. Reply
