With a success in the semifinals of the 2020 European Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, at home in Berlin, against Bulgaria (3-1: 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23), the protégés of Andrea Giani will fight France for the Olympic visa. The final match is scheduled for Friday evening (January 10, at 20:10 CET).
More than 4,000 spectators at the Max-Schmeling-Halle felt a huge relief when they saw György Grozer in the line-up. The appearance of the main star of the hosts in the semifinals was doubtful due to the injury of the right calf. Germany were led by the recovered Grozer (17 points) and Denys Kaliberda (5 kill blocks). Tsvetan Sokolov was the top scorer for Bulgaria with 18 points but with only a 36% attack (13/36).
