CHALLENGE CUP W: Dresdner, THY and Béziers sweep rivals in first leg of 1/8 finals

Dresdner SC beat Ştiinţa Bacău in the first leg of the big match of the 2020 CEV Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup - 8th finals.

 

Dresdner started the 8th finals of the 3rd tier of the European club competition with a confident performance. In front of 2,400 spectators at home in the Margon Arena, the German team prevailed over Romanian representatives Ştiinţa by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19). Thus, Dresdner took a good starting position for advancing to the quarterfinals with the rematch taking place in 2 weeks. Serbian Milica Kubura top-scored for the winning side with 22 points, including 5 aces.

Two more teams swept their rivals in the first leg, THY Istanbul and Béziers VB.

January 22:

C.S.M. Lugoj (ROU) – THY Istanbul (TUR) 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 18-25)

Dresdner SC (GER) - Ştiinţa Bacău (ROU) 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19)

Ladies in Black Aachen (GER) – Sm’Aesch Pfeffingen (SUI) 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21)

Béziers VB (FRA) – Pölkky Kuusamo (FIN) 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-17)

Kanti Schaffhausen (SUI) – AO Thiras Santorini (GRE) 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14)

January 23:

Beylikdüzü Voleybol Istanbul (TUR) - Askö Linz-Steg (AUT), 16:00 CET

Calcit Volley Kamnik (SLO) - Békéscsabai Röplabda SE (HUN), 20:00 CET

For the first time in history, Italy won’t participate in VNL

Well Sports Fans, the reality is that Italy won't be alone and you can bet more Federations will do the same as this worlwide pandemic evolves. Summer sports for all will not be happening and I can forsee European Leagues holding off until late October and November. Budgets for all clubs and federations are in a holding pattern until we get a better grip on this virus. Its actually a smart decision by the Italians. Hopefully the Atheltes use this time to rest and strengthen their bodies Reply
