Brazil prevailed in the clash between the big continental rivals Argentina at the end of Week 2 in the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League.

Brazil maintained their invincibility in the 2019 VNL as they beat the fiercest South American rivals Argentina in an exciting Pool 7 game in Tokyo, Japan, by a 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-12). The “Seleção” were 2-1 behind in sets but closed an intense fourth set into their favor to secure the tie-break in which they kept the perfect record in the tournament. Actually, Brazil is the only undefeated side in the 2019 VNL after two weeks (6-0), becoming the first team to win their opening six matches of a single VNL campaign. Yoandy Leal was Brazil’s best scorer with 18 points while Federico Pereyra poured in 26 for Argentina who are at 2-4.

Iran silenced 6,000 Japan’s fans at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza in Tokyo by sweeping the home side in straight sets to record their fifth victory in six matches. Japan remained at two wins and four losses. Milad Ebadipuor top-scored for Iran with 14 points (3 kill blocks) which was the same figure that Yuki Ishikawa had in the scoresheet for Japan.

POL M: Heynen criticizes EuroVolley format – “It’s not good for Volleyball”

[@John Doek] Everyone criticised VNL, Heynen being one of them, when its formula was introduced. It is mainly the fault of VNL that there is so little time to rest and prepare for bigger tournaments in the second part of national season, there is too much matches to play. Reply

WC 2019 W: Netherlands surprisingly sweep Brazil on Balkestein’s birthday, China wreck Russia

I don't like the comment that Balkestein-Grothues underperformed! We all know she is there to receive and defend. As you said: 0 aces for Brazil, so she did a great job! Aswell did Schoot, who was almost perfect in receive and defence! Reply
