ITA W: Imoco achieve hard-fought win over Filottrano, Scandicci surprisingly lose to Cuneo

The titleholders Imoco Volley Conegliano achieved a hard-fought win in Round 15 of the 2019/20 Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship regular season.


Lardini Filottrano took their first-ever set against Imoco Volley Conegliano and pushed champions to their limits in 2 of the 3 sets which they won. However, Imoco recorded the 5th successive triumph in the 2019/20 Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile regular season and continued looking down at all the other teams in the charts: 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-11). Miriam Sylla was Imoco’s top scorer with 17 points, while Paola Egonu made 82% attack (14/17) despite playing as a starter only in the last 2 sets. Monica De Gennaro made 80% reception (20 digs, 35% perfect). Anna Nicoletti scored 14 points for Filottrano, while Laura Partenio made 83% reception (12 digs, 33% perfect).

Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio swept Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri on the road by a 3-0 to keep following Imoco in the standings. Legendary Francesca Piccinini warmed up but didn’t make her debut for the winning side after returning to the professional volleyball. Bosca San Bernardo Cuneo inflicted a surprising defeat to the 4th placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci and broke their 5-game winning streak.

For the first time in history, Italy won’t participate in VNL

Well Sports Fans, the reality is that Italy won't be alone and you can bet more Federations will do the same as this worlwide pandemic evolves. Summer sports for all will not be happening and I can forsee European Leagues holding off until late October and November. Budgets for all clubs and federations are in a holding pattern until we get a better grip on this virus. Its actually a smart decision by the Italians.
