The truly shocking news came from Italy: former Spain Men’s Volleyball national team setter, later a head coach, Miguel Ángel Falasca has died of a heart attack at the age of 46.

Miguel Ángel Falasca, the head coach of the Women's Italian top division club Saugella Team Monza, was at the wedding of his assistant when he felt bad and went to his hotel room in which he had a heart attack. All attempts of the medical service to resuscitate him have failed.

Miguel Ángel Falasca came from a volleyball family as his father was a professional player from Argentina, the country in which Miguel Ángel was born -  in the city of Mendoza. His brother Guillermo is ex-Spain national team opposite hitter, who finished his career four years ago. Both Miguel Ángel and Guillermo took part in a historical success of Spain in the 2007 CEV European Championship when their national team took first-ever and, so far, the last major title.

During his professional career, Miguel Ángel Falasca claimed titles in the Spanish Championship three times (Club Voleibol Pòrtol), Polish Championship four times (PGE Skra Bełchatów), Spanish Cup three times (one with Vecindario ACE Gran Canaria and 2 with Club Voleibol Pòrtol), Belgian Cup once (Knack Roeselare), and Polish Cup three times (PGE Skra Bełchatów). Besides winning the 2017 EuroVolley, Miguel Ángel Falasca had another notable success with Spain national team – the gold medal in the 2007 CEV European League. Individually, he was named MVP of the Polish Cup once, Best Setter of the FIVB World Cup once and Polish cup twice, as well as in the European League once. Miguel Ángel Falasca finished his active career in 2013, playing for the Russian team Ural Ufa.

As a head coach, Miguel Ángel Falasca won the Polish Championship, Cup and Super Cup once apiece with PGE Skra Bełchatów and CEV Challenge Cup with the Saugella Team Monza in his first season as a coach of a female team. Prior to this, he was at the helm of Vero Volley Monza and Czech Republic national team.
