The 2019/20 Korean Women’s Volleyball Championship regular season set off with a repeat of the last season’s play-off finals.

The reigning champions Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders beat Korea Expressway Corporation Hi-Pass by a 3-1 (25-17 25-14 24-26 25-23) at home in Incheon in the opener of the 2019/20 Dodram V-League regular season. This season’s opening match, which was a repeat of the last season’s play-off finals, took place in front of the packed stands: 2,901 spectators. Knowing that Men’s opener, a week ago, was held at sold-out hall in Cheonan with the presence of 3,788 people that followed the match between Cheonan Hyundai Capital Skywalkers and Incheon Korean Air Jumbos, this season will be remembered by the fact that opening matches in both competitions were sold out for the first time in the V-League history.

Lee Jae-Young, the MVP of the national championship last season, led the attack of the Pink Spiders with 33 points. The American Taylor Cook, who is playing V-League for the first time on the opposite side from the Pink Spiders (was their member in 2015/16 and 2017/18 season) scored 15 points for Expressway but through only 25.42% attack. However, this should not surprise anyone given that she joined the team only a few days ago as a last-minute substitute for her compatriot Sherridan Atkinson.
