Under the supervision of the head coach Karch Kiraly, several players who have already finished or haven’t yet started their seasons at club level are training at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, California. For example, officially the best U.S. player in 2019, Andrea Drews, is part of this group after coming back from Japan where she won the title with the JT Marvelous, as well as Jordan Larson and Tori Dixon, whose contracts in China expired, and Rachael Adams who missed the first half of the season.

At the same time, the U.S. federation (USAV) organized the National Open Tryout (February 21-23) at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with 214 players born between 1994 and 2001 participating. The intention of a tryout is to assess players from 95 colleges across the country.

The Tryout turned to be very important for prospect national team members knowing that many players went through it and were later invited to train with the U.S. Women, even earned a spot on the rosters for major competitions: Rachael Adams and Carli Lloyd (2010), Kelsey Robinson and Michelle Bartsch-Hackley (2011), Tori Dixon, Kim Hill and Karsta Lowe (2013), Andrea Drews (2015), Chiaka Ogbogu (2017), Kathryn Plummer and Dana Rettke (2018), and Jordan Thompson (2019).
