Belogorie Belgorod greatly improved since their first game and defeated defending champions Sada Cruzeiro in the last match of Day 3 at FIVB Men’s Club World Championship, by 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 33-31). However, the home team is already qualified for the semifinals.

Sada Cruzeiro already finished his run at Pool A, securing their place at the semifinals due to set ratio. Belgorod, meanwhile, need at least one point against Matin Varamin to do the same.

William Arjona, Sada Cruzeiro captain: We have a team with the same quality as Belgorod, and this was proved today. I believe that some details in the end of the sets decided the game, but it was a good game overall. We are ready for a good semifinal match, and maybe to play against them again in the final.”

Gennady Shipulin, Belogorie Belgorod coach: We wanted to win against Sada Cruzeiro very much and we prepared very well for this. We needed this victory to continue with our quest, one that won’t be easy at all. Our team played very well today and the guys followed the instructions as they were supposed to. We tried to play a lot with our middle-blockers and, even with some up and downs, I’m happy. Maybe we could have closed the game earlier, but Cruzeiro is a very good team.”

Marcelo Méndez, Sada Cruzeiro coach: “Today we had a tough match and it was good for us to make an analysis of their game. The team behaved well, even though our two first sets were low. We managed to find our game afterwards and played some good volleyball. We need to fix some things and keep our philosophy of play to get strong in the final phase. I believe in our team and in the strong weapons we have. I trust a lot in these players.”
