The manager of the Cuban-Polish men’s volleyball superstar Wilfredo León revealed some interesting facts regarding his protégé that preceded renewing the contract with Sir Safety Conad Perugia.

The Italian vice-champions Perugia recently announced the extension of the contract with León for the next 2 seasons. However, his manager Andrzej Grzyb revealed in an interview for Super Express that it, actually, wasn’t a 2-year deal but 1 + 1 and can be interrupted after the first season under some conditions. He didn’t specify under what conditions, though.

Before signing the new contract with the “Block Devils”, León had offers from 3 Polish clubs and from the Russian Zenit Saint-Petersburg who were ready to provide Cuban-born outside hitter with incomes by a 40% larger than Perugia. Grzyb stated that the choice of León wasn’t determined by money. “Wilfredo made the decision he considered best for himself and his family.” However, the exact sum that Perugia offered to volleyball isn’t known but according to Italian media, he got 1.1 million euros for the year (some published it was up to 1.5 million euros). Grzyb didn’t give the official confirmation on this. “I’m not talking about financial issues.”

For the first time in history, Italy won’t participate in VNL

Well Sports Fans, the reality is that Italy won't be alone and you can bet more Federations will do the same as this worlwide pandemic evolves. Summer sports for all will not be happening and I can forsee European Leagues holding off until late October and November. Budgets for all clubs and federations are in a holding pattern until we get a better grip on this virus. Its actually a smart decision by the Italians. Hopefully the Atheltes use this time to rest and strengthen their bodies Reply
