When it seemed that there will be no more surprises and every team will simply keep their placements in the charts, the last round of the 2019/20 Superliga Parimatch regular season was marked with a twist.

Lokomotiv had everything in their hands but unexpectedly decided to send youth team players and backups (9 players in total) to an away match in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk against Sakhalin. The coaching staff of the vice-champions wanted to give a break to main players and allow them to focus on preparing for the decisive matches of the championship, obviously not thinking that being the top seed for the playoffs is of the importance. Sakhalin, who ended the regular season as sixth, took advantage of the situation and prevailed by a 3-1 (25-10, 25-12, 24-26, 25-11). Kseniya Bondar led the winning side with 19 points. Anastasiya Stalnaya top-scored for Lokomotiv with 17 points.

This outcome opened the road for Dinamo-Kazan to claim the top spot, which they did by beating Enisey at home in straight sets.
