Brazil and Argentina will play the final of the 2019 South American Men’s Volleyball Championship, held in Chile, the so-called “Clásico”.

The fiercest continental rivals Brazil and Argentina defeated Venezuela and Chile, respectively, in the semifinals that took place in front of packed stands at Gimnasio Polideportivo of the Estadio Nacional in the capital of Chile, Santiago, and will play a decider for the South American title for the sixth time in the history of the tournament. It will be a repeat of their encounter in the pool stage in which “Seleção” prevailed.

Brazil (No.1 in Pool A with 3-0 and 9 points) beat the hosts Chile (No.2 in Pool B with 2-1 and 6 points) by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-21). The best scorer of the match was Brazil’s opposite hitter Alan Souza with 14 points.

In the other semifinal duel, Argentina (No.2 in Pool A with 2-1 and 6 points) recorded a comfortable win over Venezuela (No.1 in Pool B with 2-1 and 7 points) of a 3-0, partially 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13. There were no double-digit players in the match. Argentina’s outside hitter Jan Martínez top-scored for the winning side with 9 points.

Looking at the results of Day 4, Chile, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia assured participation in the continental Olympic Qualifier in January that grants one quota from South America for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Brazil and Argentina earned a promotion to the Olympics via FIVB International Qualifier, earlier.

The 26-time consecutive winners Brazil (31 titles in 32 tournaments so far!) will play for gold in the South American Championship for the ninth time (played all finals), while Argentina will play the final for the sixth time.

2019 South American Men’s Volleyball Championship – semifinals:

TUR W: VakıfBank’s hellish plan – Bartsch to come in January, Egonu in summer!

Re: @Anon - Zhu Ting is not gonna go anywhere till Olympic is over. Wrist injury gonna take sometime to heal and recover. Hopefully She will fully fit before Olympic. Otherwise defending the title is almost impossible for China without Zhu Ting.

If Zhu Ting is still hurt or injured during the tournament, the coach can use her as a middle blocker. I feel she is the best blocker on the team. She has great instincts of where the hitter will hit to, she is tall and her hang time is very good. She is one of the more effective blockers against Egonu.

Thailand win title in Women’s Volleyball at SEA Games for 12th successive time

The different in strength and overall qualities of the team between Thai and the rest are just too great . Thai can still win even with their reserve members. Reply

CL M: Benfica shock Warszawa to record first-ever triumph in pool stage

VERVA Warszawa's defeat was due to Anastasi who too underestimated his opponent.
Starting lineup of VERVA in the match included 4 players who rarely played in the domestic league.

In order to make it to the playoffs, VERVA had to win this match against the weaker team but lost.
Therefore, it became very difficult for VERVA to pass through the group.
