Valinhos finished the last season in Superliga second-to-last at the moment of the cancelation of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic which is the position that would have relegated them to the lower rank. But the Brazilian League, like most leagues in the world, let all the clubs from the last season to remain in the top division.
However, because of being unable to find sponsors to maintain the base of the last season’s roster, Valinhos decided to refuse the invitation to play the 2020/21 Superliga and will participate in Superliga B (second division) next season.
