Thailand successfully opened Week 4 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League by scoring their fourth win in 10 matches.

Thailand fully took advantage of the fact that their rivals Serbia brought, practically, their “C“ team at Week 4 in Tokyo, Japan.

The Asian side swept young team of Serbia, the reigning world champions, by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) in Pool 15. Thus, Thailand already doubled the number of wins (4) compared to the first edition of the tournament, last year (2). As for Serbia, who made 15 unforced errors more than Thailand today (27-12), their win-loss ratio in the 2019 VNL is leveled (5-5).

Chatchu-On Moksri top-scored for Thailand with 14 points. Sara Lozo noted 12 for Serbia, while Maja Aleksic made 5 kill blocks.

Brazil downed Pool 15 hosts Japan in four sets in their 70th mutual encounter.

This is one of the two most-played fixtures in world-level major competitions. The other one is between the USA and China, who also met each other 70 times and will meet for the 71st time at Week 4 closing.

Brazil’s Ana Paula Borgo and Japan’s Sarina Koga both scored game-high 26 points. Ana Beatriz Corrêa “Bia“ from Brazil made 4 kill blocks, while Japan’s Yuki Ishii served 4 aces.

Good news for the Brazilian fans is a return to the court of Natália Zilio, who overcame muscular pains that she sustained in the match against the USA on Week 3, and played the first set.

Brazil are at 7-3 in the tournament, while Japan’s record is 5-5.

For USA, Robinson and Lowe are a must needed placements. No connection between Robinson and team USA, she is lazy at the court and always gives a free ball. Lowe lack of power as an opposite, Thompson way better than her.

POL M: Heynen criticizes EuroVolley format – “It’s not good for Volleyball”

[@John Doek] Everyone criticised VNL, Heynen being one of them, when its formula was introduced. It is mainly the fault of VNL that there is so little time to rest and prepare for bigger tournaments in the second part of national season, there is too much matches to play. Reply

WC 2019 W: Netherlands surprisingly sweep Brazil on Balkestein’s birthday, China wreck Russia

I don't like the comment that Balkestein-Grothues underperformed! We all know she is there to receive and defend. As you said: 0 aces for Brazil, so she did a great job! Aswell did Schoot, who was almost perfect in receive and defence! Reply
