Slovenia Men’s Volleyball national team member Alen Šket will defend the colors of Cerrad Czarni Radom in the 2019/20 season.

A 31-year-old outside hitter Šket came to the Polish side Radom after spending the last 3 seasons in the Turkish league, playing for Fenerbahçe and Halkbank.

Šket has 5 Slovenian Championship titles and Cups on his account, all with ACH Volley Ljubljana. In addition, he won the Turkish Cup once (Fenerbahçe) and Super Cup twice (Fenerbahçe and Halkbank). Šket is currently preparing with Slovenia for the Qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, in Gdańsk (August 9-11).

Prior to Šket, Radom engaged middle blockers Bartłomiej Grzechnik (MKS Będzin) and Damian Boruch (Cuprum Lubin), outside hitters - Greek Athanasis Protopsaltis (VfB Friedrichshafen) and Bartosz Firszt (BBTS Bielsko-Biała), libero Mateusz Masłowski (Asseco Resovia Rzeszów), setter Michał Kędzierski (Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora, Italy) and opposite hitter Karol Butryn (GKS Katowice).

The club extended with middle blockers Michał Ostrowski and Slovenian Alen Pajenk, opposite hitter Michał Filip, Slovenian setter Dejan Vinčić and head coach Robert Prygiel.

Radom parted ways with these players: the middle blocker Norbert Huber (PGE Skra Bełchatów), Russian opposite hitter Maksim Zhigalov (Dinamo Moscow, Russia), outside hitters Jakub Rybicki (Lindemans Aalst, Belgium), Kamil Kwasowski (GKS Katowice), Wojciech Żaliński (Indykpol AZS Olsztyn) and Tomasz Fornal (Jastrzębski Węgiel) and libero Kacper Wasilewski (UKS Mickiewicz Kluczbork).

WC 2019 W: Netherlands surprisingly sweep Brazil on Balkestein’s birthday, China wreck Russia

I don't like the comment that Balkestein-Grothues underperformed! We all know she is there to receive and defend. As you said: 0 aces for Brazil, so she did a great job! Aswell did Schoot, who was almost perfect in receive and defence! Reply

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(
