The Spaniard Rafael ’Rafa’ Pascual, one of the best players in the history of the Men's volleyball, is now occupied with a different kind of passion.

While he professionally played volleyball, which was until six years ago, a 47-year-old Pascual was named the MVP of the 1998 FIVB World Championship. Still, he made the biggest success nine years later by grabbing the trophy in the CEV European Championship.

Upon retirement, Pascual ran for President of the Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) but lost to Agustín Martín Santos. Even before this, only six months after retiring from volleyball, he accepted to participate in the Olympic bid for Madrid 2020, where he was a coordinator for two years.

But now, Pascual decided to do something totally different for a living - to be a restaurateur. He runs a seafood restaurant in the Spanish capital of Madrid which is called „La Chalana“ (The Barge). It is the project of a famous Spanish canoeist Javier Suárez: an Asturian seafood restaurant that initially had five branches, four in Asturia (a region of the northwest Spain) and one in Madrid where Pascual first worked before he was authorized to open a new one there, two years later which has a capacity of 400 guests.

„When you get into a new world you have to prove yourself from scratch. It is not worth saying that you are Pepito or Juanito. When we talk about the Olympic candidacy, I am Rafa Pascual of the bid for the Olympics. Or I am Rafa Pascual from La Chalana, the restaurateur. I can say, I do not sell crabs here, I am hitting balls! No, I sell crabs, saying good morning and having this place clean. Here I would replace the jersey and serve to light the grill. You have to prove that you can do it. A volleyball player cannot live off the allowance. Not even Rafa Pascual,“ the legendary player stated.

ITA M: Lube stay without a head coach – Medei resigns!

I agree with almost all you said. But the thing with grebennikov is much more difficult. Grebennikov is French and Lube desperately needed one italian libero to make space for Leal. They chose good, but this guy played before for Padova (if I am not wrong) without any pressure to win. Reply

ITA M: Lube stay without a head coach – Medei resigns!

Unfortunately, this was expected. I was surprised this hasn't happened after last season and 5 lost finals. It's always a coach that pays the price since it is easier to fire a coach vs the whole team.

It was the same in Perugia at the beginning of last season, when Atanasijevic was injured and didn't play so Perugia lost few games in the row. Sirci immediately fired Kovac, who made that team and save them previous season and brought Bernardi. Coincidentally Atanasijevic recovered at the same time and Perugia started winning. And glory goes to Bernardi :)

I love Lube but they simply have too many good players on the team and they need a coach who is a good psychologist. After losing 6 finals, they have a serious problem.

After their game vs Zenit, when they saved 8 match points, I expected them to walk over Trentino in finals. But they were nowhere to be found.
Lubre fired Christensen to bring Bruno, which was the mistake in my opinion. Christensen was the soul of that team after playing so many years for Lube.

They did an unfair thing to Sada by bringing Simon who was under contract with Sada. They brought Leal as well. He is a great player but he doesn't fit into already established attack formation with Sokolov as 1st attack option and Juantorena as 2nd.

Juantorena is 33 so he should have been replaced with Leal who is 29 if that is a long-term strategy.

But what hurt Lube the most is the fact they lost Grebennikov, who is the best libero in the world. Not sure what happened here, but Lube couldn't find a proper replacement and that is where their defense has a problem.
