The current FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship winners Itas Trentino hired a Cuban player Luis Sosa.

A 24-year-old Sosa will be the fourth outside hitter in the 2019/20 roster of Itas Trentino. Actually, he had the first experience with Trentino this February when the Italian club let him train with the squad. As the SuperLega powerhouse stressed, Sosa showed considerable potential, which convinced the club leadership to put him under the contract.

Interestingly, Sosa started his professional career as a middle blocker, but the Trentino staff in these first few months of training saw qualities in his play that can be used on position 4, mostly his 3.70m spike reach.

Unfortunately, Sosa did not compete in an official match for three years as he was one of five Cuba national team members accused of raping a girl in Finland, in July 2016. A year later, Sosa was the only one of his teammates that was dismissed of charges.

The 2019/20 season will be Sosa’s first season abroad as he spent his entire youth and senior career in the team of La Habana.
